This Level/Class is for those who want to learn how to make simple conversations in Hausa Language

1.  INTRODUCTION TO HAUSA(1 Hour) A brief introduction to Hausa Language. Places where Hausa is spoken(e.g. The main Hausa-speaking area is northern Nigeria and Niger. Hausa is also widely spoken in northern Ghana, Cameroon, Chad, Sudanese Hausa in Sudan and the Ivory Coast as well as among Fulani, Tuareg, Kanuri, Gur, Shuwa Arab, and other Afro-Asiatic speaking groups. Hausa dressings which includes Babban riga and hula for men and Abaya for women. Hausa names like Balarabe, Danladi, A’isha, Aminah etc


2. HAUSA ALPHABETS – (2 HOURS)- There are 29 letters in the Hausa alphabets. English has 26 alphabets. Some special letters of the Hausa alphabets are ɓ, ɗ, k’, gw, kw etc Teacher should try and point out the differences in pronunciations and few examples of words where the different alphabets occur.


3. DIFFERENTIATING LETTERS WITH SIMILAR SOUNDS(1 HOUR) k and k’, g and gw, s,t and ts, k and kw etc. Teachers should give several examples in Hausa Language.


4. GREETINGS IN HAUSA (1 HOUR) Common greetings in Hausa and the expected responses. E.g. Ina kwana? - Lafiya lau, Sannu da zuwa -  Yawwa, sannu etc


5. COMMON HAUSA FOODS AND FOOD ITEMS (1 HOUR) Hausa foods like Doya, Wake, Shinkafa, Masara, Tuwo etc


6. GENERAL NAMES TO ADDRESS PEOPLE IN HAUSA (1 HOUR) Examples – Aboki, Kawarta, Yaya, etc
7.  NAMES OF PLACES (1 HOUR) Examples – Makaranta, Kasuwa, Gida, etc
8. NAMES OF ITEMS (1 HOUR) Takarda, Takalmi, riga, tebur, kujera etc


9. ACTION WORDS (FI’ILI) – (1 HOUR) Tafi, Zo, duba, ci, zauna etc
10. SIMPLE CONVERSATIONS (2 HOURS) Making simple dialogues in Hausa. Students are required to listen and respond accordingly




(12 HOURS)

This Level/Class is for those who want to take their Hausa speaking skills to the next level. These are the set of learners who have completed their Basic Course or those who have previously learnt how to make some simple conversations in Hausa Language.

1. Hausa Alphabet (1 Hour) Revision of the Hausa Alphabets
2. Hausa Vowels I (1 Hour) Hausa Vowels- Hausa has only 5 vowels: a,e,I,o,u. Teachers will ensure students repeat the vowels aftr him/her for mastery. Examples will be given also
3. Hausa Vowels II(1 Hour) Hausa Monophthongs and Diphthongs, Hausa short and long vowels, Hausa Vowel Chart
4. Hausa Consonants(1 Hour) Hausa consonants with examples where each occurs
5. Intonation in Hausa (1 Hour) Hausa is a tone language, a classification in which pitch differences add as much to the meaning of a word as do consonants and vowels. Tone is not marked in Hausa orthography.
6. Introduction to Hausa Numbering system- 1-20(1 Hour) 1-Daya, 2-Biyu, 3-Uku etc
7. Hausa Numbers – 20-100(2 Hours) 20-Ashirin, 30-talatin, 40-Arba’in etc
8. Hausa Words and their meanings I(1 Hr, 30 mins) The teacher presents some simple words and their meanings to the students especially words that are common to the learners
9. Hausa Words and their meanings II(1 Hr, 30 mins) The teacher presents more Hausa words and their meanings to the students especially words that are common to the learners with a view to increasing the learners dictions in the Hausa Language
10. Simple day to day questions and responses in Hausa(1 Hour) The teacher presents some simple everyday questions and responses in Hausa. E.g. Mene ne sunanka?(What is your name?), Ina zuwa?(Where are you going?) etc


(18 HOURS)

This Class/Level is for those who want to master their Hausa speaking skills. It is for those who have completed the Platinum Course or those who attained a level of proficiency in Hausa speaking and reading.


1. Hausa syllables I(1 Hour) Hausa has only three syllable types: Consonant + Vowel (CV), Consonant + Vowel + Vowel (CVV), and Consonant + Vowel + Consonant (CVC). There are no consonant clusters.
2. Hausa Syllables II(1 Hour) The teacher presents words from a single syllable to at least 5 syllabic words. E.g. shi- 1 syllable, baba-2 syllables, kujera-3 syllables,etc
3. Syllabic drills (1 Hour) The teachers allows the learners to do some exercises on breaking Hausa words into syllables
4. Hausa Days of the Weeks and Months of the Year(1 Hour) The teacher presents the words for each day of the week and months of the year in Hausa. E.g. Lahadi(Sunday), Juma’a (Friday)etc and Janairu(January), Fabrairu(February) etc
4. Loan Words in Hausa I(English) 1 Hour, 30 Minutes The teacher explains that every living language borrows words from other languages. Hausa borrows some English words like: Amirka(America), Fasto(Pastor),Kotu(Court), Firamare(Primary) etc
5. Loan Words in Hausa II(Arabic) 1 Hour, 30 Minutes The teacher explains that every living language borrows words from other languages. Hausa borrows many Arabic words like: Alhaji, addu’a, duniya, Jumma’a etc
6. Singular and Plural in Hausa (2 Hours) Examples of objects and their plural forms are given in the class. E.g. kujera(chair), kujeru(chairs), yaro(boy) yara(boys/children), mace(woman), mata(women) etc
7. Objects at home and School (2 Hour) The teacher lists items found at home and in the school for the learners, possibly with pictures
8. Hausa foods and fruits (2 Hours) Examples: Shinkafa(Rice), Alkama(Wheat), Wake(Beans), Abarba(Pineapple), Karas(carrot), Yazawa(cashew) etc
9. Animals - Wild Animals and Domestic Animals (2 Hours) The teachers presents names of some wild and domestic animals animals, possibly with pictures and videos. E.g. Saniya(cow), Kare(Dog), Doki(Horse) Katantawa(snail), Karendaji(Wolves), Maciji(snake) etc
10. Hausa Proverbs (1 Hour) The teacher and the students converse with some Hausa Proverbs. E.g. Don tuwon gobe ake wanke tukunya(Make provisions against tomorrow) etc


11. Parts of the Body (1 Hour) Example: Kai(Head), Wuya(Neck), Hannu(Hand), Kafa(Leg), Ciki(Stomach) etc
12. Fun drills (1 Hour) The teacher drills the students on the new Hausa skills and proficiencies that they have acquired in this level.
